Es ist schon komisch, dass präzise an dem Tag, an dem ich gerade aus den Medien erfahre, dass Michael Jackson, der berühmteste, wir müssen ihn  so nennen, Pop-Musiker der letzten 100 Jahre, plötzlich und unerwartet verstorben ist, die vorliegende Kompilation, eine Fünfer-CD-Box mit seinen letzten fünf Studio-Alben, “Off The Wall“, “Thriller“, “Bad“, “Dangerous“ und “Invincible“ ihren Weg auf meinen Schreibtisch findet.

Eigentlich war die Veröffentlichung der sehr ansprechend gestalteten Box mit den Original-Cover-Artworks, und einem Booklet mit detaillierten Infos zu jedem Song aus Anlass der angekündigten Konzertreihe in London angepeilt. Doch nun kommt alles anders.

Ohne mich über Michael Jacksons Fehlleitungen privater Natur auszulassen und ohne mich anbiedern zu wollen geht es mir hier und heute nur um den Musiker, die Musik-Ikone, den selbsternannten “King Of Pop“ Michael Jackson.

Denn mit der vorliegenden Kompilation ist zumindest das zweite große Kapitel, das Musik-Leben nach den Jackson Five, überaus Bildhaft beschrieben. Man höre sich nur einmal “Off The Wall“ aus dem Jahre 1979 (!) an. Ehrlich – wurde schon mal was schlüssigeres in Sachen Black Music, Soul, produziert?

Wie schon hierbei war es auch bei “Thriller“ einmal mehr Quincy Jones, der einen nicht unwichtigen Teil der Strippen zog, und aus “Thriller“, zusammen mit Jackson selbst, damals zuallererst Ideengeber seiner eigenen Umsetzung, das erfolgreichste Album aller Zeiten machte. Noch einmal zum mitlesen: das e-r-f-o-l-g-r-e-i-c-h-s-t-e Album aller Zeiten!

Viel wurde in den letzten Tagen seit dem Bekannt werden der Tragödie an jenem 25. Juni gesagt, geschrieben, auch gelästert. Dreckige Wäsche wurde gewaschen, sein Lebenslauf in den Medien rauf- und runter gespielt, Scheinheiligkeit vorgetäuscht. Anbiederung. Das ersparen wir uns an dieser Stelle. Im Sinne Michael Jacksons, dem es, daran glaube ich fest, eigentlich immer nur um die Musik, um seine Musik, den Soul des Michael Jackson, ging.

Denn die Geschichte Jacksons, der besonders für Soul- und Soul-Inspirierte Musik eine der wichtigsten Schlüsselfiguren der letzten fünf Jahrzehnte war, ist besonders in SOUL TRAIN-Kreisen so bekannt, dass ich jetzt Michael Jackson an dieser Stelle nur noch unseren Segen mit auf dem Weg geben möchte. Ohne ihn gäbe es keinen SOUL TRAIN, so viel steht fest. Immerhin, ich gebe es zu: “Thriller“ war auch meine erste, selbst gekaufte Schallplatte.

Angeblich kommen die Plattenfirmen, sprich: Sony Music, schon jetzt nicht mehr mit dem Pressen von Michael Jackson-Alben hinterher. Ironie nennt man das wohl. Aus dem Schöpfen, was einen zerstört.

Um sachlich zu bleiben: Wem Michael Jackson wirklich am Herzen liegt, der hat seine Alben sowieso schon im Regal stehen. Wer aber ein echter Fan, wie ich, ist, für den führt kein Weg an dieser liebevoll gestalteten, lohnenswerten Fünfer-CD-Box vorbei.

Unser Mitgefühl gilt in diesen Tagen der Familie und den Freunden von Michael Jackson. Seine Musik wird immer weiter leben.
